Formula & How It's Calculated
Grade points: A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0
Example Calculations
3 courses this semester:
- Math (3 cr, A=4.0): 12.0 pts | English (3 cr, B+=3.3): 9.9 pts | Biology (4 cr, A-=3.7): 14.8 pts
- Total: 36.7 pts ÷ 10 credits = GPA 3.67
How It Works
- 1Add your courses — name, letter grade, and credit hours.
- 2Grade is automatically converted to grade points (A=4.0 scale).
- 3Semester GPA = total grade points divided by total credit hours.
- 4Enter previous GPA and credits to see updated cumulative GPA.
- 5Add or remove courses dynamically.
- 6Click Calculate or grades update automatically as you type.

GPA Calculator – Calculate Semester and Cumulative GPA
Our free GPA calculator supports semester GPA, cumulative GPA, and what-if scenarios. Add unlimited courses, enter your letter grades and credit hours, and get instant results on the 4.0 scale used by US colleges and universities.
Understanding the 4.0 GPA Scale
The standard US college GPA scale assigns: A/A+ = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, F = 0.0. Higher-credit courses carry more weight — a 4-credit A affects your GPA more than a 1-credit A.
