GPA Calculator

A GPA calculator computes your Grade Point Average by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing all products, and dividing by total credit hours.

Assign grade points (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.), multiply by credit hours for each course, sum all grade points, divide by total credit hours. Example: 3 As and 3 Bs at 3 credits each = (12+9+12+9+12+9)÷18 = 3.5 GPA.

3.5-4.0 is excellent (Dean's List territory). 3.0-3.49 is good. 2.5-2.99 is average. Below 2.0 may put you on academic probation depending on your institution.

Unweighted GPA caps at 4.0 regardless of course difficulty. Weighted GPA gives extra points for AP/IB/Honors courses (typically A=5.0 for AP). Many colleges recalculate GPA on their own scale.

Focus on high-credit courses (more impact per grade), seek tutoring early, use office hours, retake courses where your school replaces the original grade, and drop courses before the deadline if struggling.

Credit hours represent course weight. A 4-credit course has twice the GPA impact of a 2-credit course. High-credit courses deserve proportionally more study time.

Most graduate programs require a 3.0 minimum. Competitive programs (law, medicine, top MBA) typically expect 3.5+. Some programs care more about major GPA than cumulative GPA.

It matters most in the first 1-2 years after graduation for competitive jobs and graduate school applications. After 3-5 years of work experience, it becomes less relevant for most careers.

A 5.0 scale assigns A=5.0, B=4.0, C=3.0 for regular courses, with the same values plus 1 point for honors/AP. Use the same weighted average formula.
